What is the GPL?
GPL stands for the GNU General Public License. You can read all about it at the GPL website.

Why do you release themes as GPL?
WordPress is GPL. We figured if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for us!

Is everything in the theme folder GPL?
Not necessarily. We may occasionally release a theme that uses an image that is not GPL. If there’s a question about an element, feel free to ask. It’s safer that way.

So, GPL means free, right?
Not always, but in the case of Elevate, yes. All our themes are free.

Can I modify GPL themes?
Yes. GPL gives you the right to modify the theme however you’d like.

If I modify one of your themes, do I have to release my mod to the public?
No. You are free to keep your mods in house and do not have to release your code.

Can I remove the credits in the footer?
Yes. You are under absolutely no obligation to keep the footer attribution links intact.

Can I use GPL themes on clients’ sites?
Yes. Our themes are free. No restrictions.

Can I redistribute GPL themes?
Yes. Are you noticing a trend?

Can I sell GPL themes?
Yes. I know, it’s a bit surprising, but you are more than welcome to take our themes here at Elevate and try to sell them to someone. My guess is that it would be an effort in futility, though.

Can I use the code in a GPL theme elsewhere?
Yes. Just be sure you follow the crediting guidelines of the GPL.

Can I take credit for your work?
I’m not a lawyer. If I had to guess, I’d say no. Plus, that would just be wrong anyway. Don’t be mean.

If I make your theme better, can I re-release it?
Sure. That’s pretty much the whole point of open source software.

If I submit a design for coding, does it have to be GPL?
Yes. We ask that you release your design under GPL.
